Pirelli completed its latest MotoGP test at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on Monday, with 18 riders taking part in development work for the 2027 season. It was the second and final in-season test open to race riders before the complete 2027 grid gathers in Valencia.
The riders evaluated soft, medium and hard slick compounds at both the front and rear. The programme featured the latest 850cc prototypes from all five manufacturers, while several adapted current-generation 1000cc bikes were also used during the closed-door session.
Several riders who participated in the previous test in the Czech Republic returned, including Toprak Razgatlioglu, Raul Fernandez, Pedro Acosta, Fermin Aldeguer, Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez. Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira replaced outgoing HRC riders Luca Marini and Joan Mir, while Jack Miller, Brad Binder and Franco Morbidelli also made their Pirelli test debuts.
According to Sky Italia, as reported by Crash.net, Moreira and Honda were comfortably fastest with a reported 1m 28.4s lap. Acosta was 0.4 seconds behind, followed by Bezzecchi, Aldeguer and Zarco, who were reported to be 0.7 seconds off the benchmark. Maverick Vinales was said to be the fastest rider on an adapted 1000cc bike, while Marc Marquez was reportedly 1.1 seconds behind Moreira.
Those lap times cannot be treated as official results, however, because the test was held behind closed doors without media access or official timing. Crash.net also noted that it was unclear which riders were using the 850cc prototypes and which were riding adapted 1000cc machinery.
Pirelli Motorcycle Racing Director Giorgio Barbier said the Austrian test provided important feedback for the development of the 2027 tyre range. He said riders evaluated different compounds with varied riding approaches, while the overall feedback was positive, particularly regarding grip and stability.
The next MotoGP test involving race riders will take place in Valencia on 1 December, two days after the season finale. It will be Pirelli's first test featuring the complete 2027 MotoGP rider line-up and official timing.
