The iconic Phillip Island circuit is officially set to host the Supercars Championship starting from the 2027 season onwards. This major strategic decision comes in the wake of the venue losing its long-standing MotoGP Australian Grand Prix status, which is scheduled to relocate to a new street circuit in Adelaide beginning in 2027. This multi-year agreement serves as a vital lifeline for the regional Victorian economy following the bombshell announcement regarding the motorcycle world championship's departure.
Earlier this year, the decision to move MotoGP away from Phillip Island after 2026 sparked widespread public outcry from passionate motorsport fans across the globe. Although attendance figures had experienced a decline in recent years due to the venue's challenging remote access, both MotoGP and WorldSBK events remained paramount to the financial survival of local businesses. Local authorities acted decisively to guarantee that the historic racing sanctuary retained its status as a premier global motorsport destination.
Australia's premier saloon car racing series will officially return to Phillip Island in 2027 for the first time since 2019. Under the newly inked five-year agreement, the circuit has been assigned to stage one of the high-stakes Finals events as part of the intense title showdown at the conclusion of the campaign. Supercars Executive Chairman Barclay Nettlefold expressed immense delight over securing the long-term partnership coinciding with their 30th-anniversary celebrations.

"As we celebrate 30 years of Supercars in 2027, it feels incredibly fitting to return to Phillip Island, a circuit that formed part of our championship in 1997 and holds a special place in the history of our sport," said Barclay Nettlefold. He emphasized that the venue has consistently delivered remarkable moments, establishing a solid foundation to forge an exciting new chapter for teams, drivers, and devoted fans alike.
Major Events Minister Anthony Carbines highlighted the profound economic relief this agreement brings to regional businesses that rely heavily on major tourism inflows. With the Labor government locking in the five-year commitment, local merchants can anticipate a steady influx of crowds and customers. Meanwhile, the historic circuit will host its final premier motorcycle Grand Prix weekend next week before the monumental transition takes full effect.
