MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Pedro Acosta of KTM set the pace in a damp Free Practice 1 at the 2026 Brazil MotoGP in Goiania, following a delayed start caused by heavy overnight rain.

The Goiania circuit, marking MotoGP’s return to Brazil for the first time since 2004, presented challenging conditions after earlier flooding and ongoing clean-up operations throughout the week. Although rain had stopped before the session began, the track remained partially wet, creating mixed conditions for riders.

Most of the field initially ran on wet tyres, with only a limited number switching to slicks as the surface gradually improved. Pedro Acosta delivered a benchmark lap of 1m26.688s on wet rubber, demonstrating strong adaptation to the evolving grip levels.

Jack Miller of Yamaha emerged as Acosta’s closest challenger, setting a late 1m26.775s on slick tyres as conditions improved toward the end of the session. The tyre strategy split highlighted the uncertainty surrounding track evolution.

Thailand Grand Prix winner Marco Bezzecchi secured third place for Aprilia, while reigning world champion Marc Marquez finished fourth on the factory Ducati. Marquez had led early running with a 1m28.708s lap before conditions began to improve.

As the track dried, lap times dropped progressively. Marquez improved to a 1m27.775s mid-session, while several riders—including Brad Binder, Alex Rins, Johann Zarco, and Luca Marini—experimented with slick tyres, though without major gains in track position.

In the closing stages, Jorge Martin briefly moved to the top before being displaced by Acosta, Miller, and Bezzecchi as lap times continued to fall. The final minutes saw rapid changes in the order, reflecting the constantly evolving track conditions.

Franco Morbidelli completed the session in fifth place, followed by Maverick Vinales in sixth. Returning rider Fermin Aldeguer impressed with eighth place after recovering from a pre-season femur injury.

Francesco Bagnaia experienced a major scare early in the session when he nearly lost control of his Ducati, but managed to continue and finish ninth. Alex Marquez rounded out the top ten.

Home rider Diogo Moreira ended the session in 18th, while Fabio Quartararo struggled in the conditions, finishing last and nearly three seconds off the pace.

Despite the difficult conditions, no major crashes were recorded, although several riders ran wide into gravel traps. The cautious approach reflected the combination of a new circuit and unpredictable surface grip.

Heading into the next sessions, teams will focus on maximising the limited data gathered in FP1 to refine setup direction. With track conditions expected to continue evolving, adaptability will remain a key factor in determining performance ahead of qualifying and the race.
