Pedro Acosta watched a golden opportunity to close the championship points gap slip away after an abrupt end to the Japanese MotoGP Sprint race. The young Spaniard admitted to missing out on a crucial podium fight following a chaotic opening lap incident at Twin Ring Motegi.
Starting from a strong grid position, Acosta's momentum stalled off the line as he slipped down the order amid intense early-lap battles. The situation quickly escalated when Alex Marquez misjudged an overtaking maneuver, taking out multiple riders including the KTM standout and abruptly ending his afternoon.
The premature exit denied Acosta a clear path to gain valuable ground on Marco Bezzecchi in the standings. Given his solid pace during practice sessions, the rookie truly believed a top-three finish was firmly within his grasp before the unfortunate collision ruined his race.

Attention now shifts to Sunday's main Grand Prix, where rear tyre management is expected to play a decisive role across the grid. While reflecting on competitors' struggles with the medium compound, Acosta remains focused on bouncing back when the lights go out once again.
