Pedro Acosta saw a golden opportunity vanish in a fraction of a second during a chaotic opening lap at Motegi. The Spanish prodigy did not hold back his frustration toward Alex Marquez after an over-ambitious overtaking attempt at Turn 3 wiped out both him and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Having secured a front-row start, the KTM star was poised for a strong points haul to close the gap in the championship standings. Instead, a premature lunge from the Gresini rider cut short what could have been another stellar podium charge for the young sensation.
FIM MotoGP stewards swiftly intervened, handing the offender a double long lap penalty for Sunday's Grand Prix. The sanction reflects the severity of the opening-lap incident that completely derailed the race for multiple contenders.
For Acosta, the bitter pill to swallow is not just the lost result, but the missed chance to capitalize on crucial championship points while battling near the sharp end of the grid.
