Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia is at the lowest point of his career. A string of poor results with Ducati Lenovo Team, especially at the San Marino GP, has raised a big question: is this the end of the two-time world champion's glory days? Mental pressure and unresolved technical issues have left him looking fragile on the Desmosedici.

The crisis peaked at Misano. In front of his home crowd, Pecco Bagnaia failed to reach Q2, started 14th, finished 13th in the Sprint with no points, and DNF'd in the main race. In stark contrast, Marc Marquez dominated and won the race. This result tarnished his reputation as a top Ducati rider.

Since Marc Marquez joined the factory Ducati team, internal dynamics changed drastically. Marquez immediately clinched his 9th world title, while Bagnaia, previously the golden boy, suddenly lost the spotlight. This psychological burden was compounded by high expectations from management and media. Former legendary rider Alex Criville assessed that Bagnaia carried excessive pressure, which slowly eroded his mental calmness.

Beyond mental pressure, technical issues also surfaced. Bagnaia repeatedly complained about losing front-end feel and tyre traction under hard braking. However, his feedback was dismissed by Ducati engineers because Marquez could ride the same bike fast. Bagnaia's frustration peaked when his bike didn't respond to setup changes as expected, creating an anomaly that made him feel humiliated by the Desmosedici's performance.

The difference in bike character felt by Bagnaia was in stark contrast to ideal conditions. Engine braking that should aid braking felt like pulling the clutch fully. Rear tyre grip that should be strong instead vanished when load was added. The bike no longer responded to setup changes, forcing Bagnaia to ride defensively and making him prone to crashes if pushed aggressively. This technical problem widened the gap between him and Marquez.

Although Bagnaia denied the mental issue with Marquez and insisted it was purely technical, his frustration was undeniable. Ducati stated they would fully support him until the end of the season, but Bagnaia's relationship with the team seems to be on the rocks. Speculation emerged that he had signed a four-year contract with Aprilia Racing, a strong signal that Bagnaia's red era is about to end.

This story is a lesson on how the Marquez effect not only shakes up the standings but also the mental and technical stability of a champion. Ducati now faces the reality that pairing two top riders doesn't always produce harmony. Bagnaia, on the other hand, tries to rise from adversity, but Marquez's shadow continues to haunt his every move.
