Pecco Bagnaia revealed that Ducati Lenovo Team already understands the cause behind the crash that ended his 2026 French MotoGP at Le Mans. The Italian rider lost a strong podium opportunity after falling from second position due to front-end issues on the Ducati Desmosedici GP26.

Bagnaia had actually delivered one of his strongest weekends of the season. He secured pole position and finished second in Saturday’s Sprint race before once again looking highly competitive during Sunday’s grand prix. Despite dropping from pole to fifth on the opening lap, Bagnaia successfully recovered his pace and climbed back to second behind Marco Bezzecchi.

The Ducati rider appeared firmly on course for his first Sunday podium of the season. However, the situation changed once his confidence in the front-end gradually started disappearing during the second phase of the race.

"We had a small issue and lap after lap I was losing confidence in the front-end while still trying to maintain the same pace," Bagnaia explained.

The crash eventually occurred at the first chicane on lap 16 of the 27-lap grand prix. Bagnaia stated that the issue progressively worsened during the final seven laps before he ultimately lost the ability to turn the bike into corners as he wanted under braking.

From a technical perspective, the symptoms described by Bagnaia once again pointed toward front-end stability and front tyre grip consistency problems on the Ducati GP26. He even admitted the Le Mans incident followed a similar pattern to his crash during the Spanish Grand Prix, where confidence in the front-end suddenly disappeared midway through the race.

"We know exactly why I crashed and that helps the team a lot. It was not rider error and these things can happen," he added.

The situation now represents a significant concern for Ducati because Le Mans exposed changes in the GP26’s handling characteristics once tyre degradation entered a more critical phase. Under those conditions, riders must carefully balance aggressive braking performance with front-end stability to maintain optimal racing lines.

Bagnaia’s retirement also opened the door for complete domination by Aprilia Racing, which secured a historic 1-2-3 finish through Jorge Martin, Bezzecchi, and Ai Ogura. The result further increased pressure on Ducati following the absence of Marc Marquez, who underwent surgery after his Sprint race crash.

Despite the retirement, Bagnaia remains optimistic ahead of next weekend’s Catalan Grand Prix. He believes Ducati now fully understands the technical root of the Le Mans issue and expects the development work from previous Barcelona testing to help the GP26 return to a level capable of matching or even surpassing Aprilia in the 2026 MotoGP title battle.
