The tension in the World Rally Championship title race reached a fever pitch as Oliver Solberg surged into the lead at Rally Sardinia. While his brilliant pace kept his faint championship dreams alive, the young Swede could not hide his frustration over a costly blunder from the Hyundai camp that inadvertently helped his championship rival.
Heading into the season finale, his title rival held a crucial 21-point advantage at the top of the standings. This mathematical reality meant winning the rally overall was merely a stepping stone for Solberg, who also needed maximum impact from Super Sunday and the Power Stage alongside a disastrous points haul for his main opponent.
The title equation wobbled on Saturday afternoon when Thierry Neuville crashed out of second place. That retirement inadvertently improved the title rival's overall position in the rally standings, sending Solberg into a fit of rage by the time he returned to the service park.

"To be honest, I was really pissed off, like really pissed off," Solberg admitted, reflecting on the moment he learned about his stablemate's exit. While acknowledging that the pressure of fighting purely for the victory had lifted, he lamented how a simple mistake on the road shifted the championship momentum.
Despite the setback, Solberg remained immensely proud of his Saturday masterclass behind the wheel. Chasing down a massive deficit in the final round echoes the legendary feat achieved by his father, Petter Solberg, who came from third in the standings to snatch the 2001 crown in Wales.
