The WorldSBK weekend at the Estoril circuit is presenting unique technical challenges for the riders, particularly regarding front tyre compound selection. Miguel Oliveira openly highlighted what he described as a delicate situation after completing a promising Friday practice session near the sharp end of the field.
The Portuguese rider successfully demonstrated a significant performance step forward with BMW, a manufacturer that has struggled to break into the top ten during recent WorldSBK rounds. He capped off a strong day by securing a competitive fourth position during the FP2 session amidst challenging weather conditions.
However, those positive notes are accompanied by high vigilance regarding track grip levels and rubber degradation. Strong winds combined with a natural lack of grip at the circuit mean engineers must carefully determine the most optimal tyre strategy for the upcoming races.

"We are aware that the front tyre situation is a little bit delicate, so we keep our options open," Miguel Oliveira told Crash.net. He added that his team must remain fully prepared to adapt to dynamic track conditions. "For sure we need to be ready to use another front compound if we need."
Overall, the seasoned rider felt quite pleased with the progress made with his motorcycle's setup throughout Friday. Basic suspension adjustments made during the second practice session successfully brought the machine into a much better operating window compared to the opening morning session.
"It was a good Friday. The balance was already in a good level since we started FP1. Then we made some adjustments for the second practice and the bike was okay," he explained regarding the technical development process carried out by his crew.
Looking ahead to tomorrow's sessions, the rider chose to remain grounded and realistic rather than overly optimistic. His main focus is ironing out single-lap pace issues that still present minor hurdles in extracting maximum grip.
"So, I think we did a good solid Friday. I’m not over-optimistic for tomorrow, so we’ll work and do the best we can within our package to get the best lap possible," he concluded.
