Nurburgring Rival Praises Verstappen Impact on Motorsport

Max Verstappen has received further praise ahead of his Nürburgring 24 Hours debut after former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock claimed the Dutchman’s presence has generated enormous attention for German motorsport.

Verstappen will make his debut in the legendary endurance race this weekend aboard a Mercedes-AMG GT3. The participation of the four-time Formula 1 world champion has dramatically boosted the event’s popularity, including contributing to the first weekend ticket sell-out in Nürburgring 24 Hours history.

In recent years, appearances by active Formula 1 drivers outside grand prix racing have become increasingly rare due to the expanding F1 calendar. That situation has made Verstappen’s involvement particularly significant for the endurance racing paddock.

"This is also about showing that German motorsport is still alive and very strong. Many people act like motorsport here is dead, but that is simply not true," Glock told media including RacingNews365.

According to Glock, Verstappen’s influence on the popularity of the Nordschleife has been enormous because the Dutch driver has brought global Formula 1 audiences into the world of GT3 and endurance racing.

"We really have to thank him many times over. The Nordschleife would not have been mentioned this often in recent months if Max was not here," Glock added.

From both a technical and sporting perspective, Verstappen’s presence is also viewed as increasing awareness of the complexity of modern endurance racing. The Nürburgring 24 Hours is not simply about outright speed, but also tyre management, multi-class traffic, night strategy, and adapting to extreme weather conditions.

Verstappen has spent several months preparing for the event through extensive testing programmes at the Nordschleife. His adaptation to GT3 machinery has also drawn major praise from Mercedes-AMG due to how quickly he has understood the characteristics of endurance racing cars.

Glock even described Verstappen as a key figure for modern motorsport because he continues to compete in non-Formula 1 events despite already being one of the biggest names in international racing.

"I think it is incredible what he is doing and how committed he remains to all of this. Max plays a huge role. He is one of the main figureheads of this sport," Glock explained.

With rain and fog expected to dominate the Nürburgring 24 Hours weekend, the motorsport world is now watching closely to see whether Verstappen can immediately challenge for victory in one of the toughest endurance debuts of his career.
