Motorsport, Sportrik Media - The organisers of the Nürburgring 24 Hours have decided to relax the entry limit for the 2026 edition after the event became oversubscribed ahead of next month’s race.
The endurance classic had initially set a maximum of 150 participating teams. However, with 161 entries submitted, organisers had planned a selection process to determine which teams would secure a place on the starting grid.
That approach has now been revised, with the decision taken to allow additional entries in recognition of the teams that have already committed significant resources to compete at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, widely known as the “Green Hell”.

The 24-hour race is scheduled to take place on May 16–17 and is regarded as one of the four major endurance events on the global motorsport calendar. Its demanding layout and mixed-class format make it one of the most complex races in endurance competition.
The presence of Max Verstappen is expected to further elevate interest in this year’s event, with the Formula 1 driver set to participate as part of the expanded grid.
An increased number of competitors is likely to intensify the challenge of traffic management on the narrow and technical circuit, placing greater emphasis on race strategy, coordination, and risk management across the full 24-hour duration.
The official entry list is expected to be released later this week, providing further clarity on the composition of the grid and the competitive landscape across the various classes.
The decision to expand the entry limit reflects the organisers’ flexibility in accommodating strong demand while maintaining the event’s status as one of the most prestigious endurance races in international motorsport.
