Lando Norris once again proved his mettle at the wet Zandvoort circuit. The McLaren driver clinched pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix, edging out Mercedes' George Russell by a slender 0.102 seconds. This marks Norris's second pole of the 2026 season, following his success in Hungary.
The qualifying session was nothing short of dramatic, with rain falling towards the end of Q3. That forced drivers to head out early for their final flying laps. Norris and Russell even engaged in a bit of cat-and-mouse on their out-laps, adding to the tension as the rain intensified.
Norris, who was also fastest in Q2, posted a 1m11.163s on his final lap. Russell responded by improving his time, but could only manage a 1m11.265s. Meanwhile, championship leader Kimi Antonelli briefly topped the timesheets before dropping to third, 0.133s off pole.

Oscar Piastri took fourth, 0.142s behind his teammate Norris. The third row will be an all-Ferrari affair, with Lewis Hamilton in fifth and Charles Leclerc in sixth. Home hero Max Verstappen had to settle for seventh, 0.455s adrift, much to the disappointment of the orange-clad fans.
Liam Lawson, standing in for the injured Isack Hadjar, will start eighth. Gabriel Bortoleto qualified ninth for Audi, while impressive rookie Arvid Lindblad rounded out the top ten. The session also saw Carlos Sainz suffer his second consecutive Q1 elimination, while his Williams teammate Alex Albon could only manage 16th.
With this result, McLaren continues to assert its dominance this weekend, having topped every practice session. The battle at the front promises to be a thrilling spectacle when the race gets underway, with Norris optimistic about holding off his rivals.
