Nicolo Bulega wrapped up the 2026 WorldSBK season with a fantastic milestone after matching the total career wins of legendary racer Troy Bayliss at the Jerez Circuit. The Italian rider was completely dominant throughout the weekend, sweeping victories to cement his status as one of the brightest talents in superbike racing before stepping up to the premier class.
Absolute dominance was shown by the rider who will race for VR46 in MotoGP next season. Throughout the weekend in Spain, he only lost the lead for a few corners on the opening lap of Race 2. This high level of consistency allowed him to secure 32 wins out of 36 races held over the course of the season.
This remarkable achievement even surpassed the records previously set by great world champions such as Jonathan Rea, Toprak Razgatlioglu, and Alvaro Bautista. Throughout the year, his worst race result was finishing second, serving as clear proof of his superior package and riding style on the tarmac.
Bulega admitted that matching Troy Bayliss' tally of 52 career victories held deep personal significance for him. The former Australian world champion was one of his childhood idols while growing up and starting his motorcycle racing career.
"Normally, I don’t see this many types of records. I think that today I equalled Bayliss in terms of victories, so it is incredible. Bayliss was one of my idols and now my name is close to him," Bulega told WorldSBK.com.
An emotional atmosphere filled the Aruba.it Ducati team garage during the farewell after the final race. The hard-fought effort to leave the squad on a high note was successfully realized, leaving the Italian rider and his loyal crew in tears.
"Everybody was crying, and me too. For me, it was very important to win today because I wanted to leave this paddock and this team with more wins, and we achieved another incredible weekend," he concluded.
