New WRC Promoter Vows to 'Never Change DNA of Rally'
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Rally del Paraguay was the second WRC event with new management in place – but the first where its new owners laid out its vision

Eric Boullier, the new CEO of WRC Promoter, has spoken publicly for the first time since the promoter sale was agreed. At a press conference during Rally del Paraguay, he sought to reassure rally fans with a key message: "We will never ever change the DNA of rally."

Boullier, formerly a Formula 1 team boss, stood alongside FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Cosmobolis chairman Jean-Louis Mosca to outline their vision for the future of the WRC. This marked the first time the new management laid out their plans after taking over the championship.

"There is one thing I would like to emphasize first: we will never ever change the DNA of rally. So, we can reassure everybody, all the stakeholders in the sport and the fans first: never, ever will we change the DNA," Boullier said, as quoted from DirtFish.

Despite the reassurance, Boullier acknowledged that rallying currently lacks visibility. "Rallying obviously is the most spectacular sport, but nobody talks about it anymore. And that's the issue today: we want to bring back WRC and ERC to where they belong," he added.

One of the main focuses is the event format. Boullier mentioned that formats like those used in Finland or Estonia, with a single stage on the same day, will be a key focus. "That's the kind of format we're going to focus on, which is going to allow us, thanks to the FIA, to work on a better product, which we can make it easier for the fans to attend, but also better to broadcast and show to the people who cannot come, what is WRC," he explained.

In addition to format, Boullier also plans a complete overhaul of the media platform. "We're going to reshape completely the media platform because we want to get to the new century – that was the deal – obviously to bring more digital. We need to be more present on social media, we need to be able to catch a new audience in the future, which is not only a hardcore audience," he said.

Finally, Boullier aims to make the sport a sustainable business platform for teams, manufacturers, and all stakeholders. "We want to reshape a little bit to make sure we can welcome the fans, welcome the companies, welcome the CEOs," he concluded.
