MotoGP, Sportrik Media - The postponement of the Qatar Grand Prix has forced organisers of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship to revise the season calendar. The change affects several late-season rounds, including the Portuguese and Valencia Grands Prix.

The Qatar round at Lusail was originally scheduled for April but has now been moved to 6–8 November 2026 due to the ongoing geopolitical situation in the Middle East. Despite the reshuffle, the championship will still consist of 22 rounds, with adjustments focused on the final phase of the season.

The revised schedule creates a demanding triple-header in the Asia-Pacific region, with races at Phillip Island, Sepang, and Lusail taking place on consecutive weekends. This sequence is expected to play a decisive role in the championship battle as teams and riders approach the closing stages of the campaign.

The change also forced organisers to revise the timing of the final two events. The Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao has been moved to 20–22 November, while the Valencia Grand Prix will now take place on 27–29 November 2026, maintaining its role as the season finale.

According to MotoGP organisers, the adjustment prevents what would have been an unrealistic run of five grands prix across five consecutive weekends, a scenario considered unsustainable for teams, logistics operations, and paddock personnel.

“The calendar adjustment ensures the championship can continue while maintaining operational feasibility for teams and stakeholders,” organisers stated in the official MotoGP update.

The new Valencia date also impacts the traditional post-season MotoGP test, typically held on the Tuesday following the final race. Under the revised schedule, the test would take place on 1 December, potentially raising concerns about colder weather conditions.

This test will carry additional technical importance as manufacturers continue preparations for the 2027 regulations, which will introduce 850cc motorcycles and Pirelli tyres across the championship.
