Nathan Herne firmly cemented his championship lead aboard the #29 Chevrolet Camaro with a commanding victory in Race 2 of the Trans Am series at Sandown. The front-runner managed to survive persistent braking issues and intense pressure from his chasing rivals throughout the intense encounter.
When the lights went out, pole-sitter Todd Hazelwood immediately faced fierce challenges into the opening corner. Herne executed a spectacular outside maneuver at Turn 1 to seize control of the race. Meanwhile, Lachlan Evennett delivered a stunning performance in the #8 Camaro, charging through to secure a brilliant second-place finish, crossing the line just 1.6 seconds behind the winner.
The race dynamic shifted dramatically on Lap 6 when the safety car was deployed following separate incidents involving Isaac Demellweek and Tyler Cheney. As the field scrambled at the restart, Evennett caught the pack off guard with a decisive move for position. Further down the order, Jarrod Hughes mounted an extraordinary recovery charge from the very back of the grid after an overnight technical disqualification.

Hughes carved his way through traffic with remarkable determination, eventually fighting his way up to claim a hard-fought top-ten finish. At the sharp end, Herne battled severe brake locking in the closing stages, surviving a major sideways moment at Turn 9 on the penultimate lap to keep his machine pointed in the right direction.
Hazelwood crossed the line in third position despite struggling with straight-line speed, while Blake Tracey and James Moffat rounded out the top five positions. The thrilling weekend action concludes with the final race scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
