Theophile Nael made a stunning debut in Formula 3 by winning the Spanish Grand Prix Sprint Race at the Madring on Saturday (June 20, 2026). The Campos driver crossed the line with a nearly seven-second gap to second place, signaling his arrival as a force to be reckoned with.
Starting from second, Nael engaged in an early battle with polesitter James Wharton. The two went wheel-to-wheel in the opening corners, with Wharton briefly holding the lead. But Nael was quick to radio his team, asking for the position back. On lap two, Wharton yielded, and Nael seized the lead, never looking back.
“I just focused on my own race,” Nael said after the race. “The car felt amazing, and I could manage the tires well. This is a fantastic result for the team.”

Behind him, PREMA Racing showed their strength. Wharton finished second, with Alex Powell completing the podium. Powell, who replaced Louis Sharp at Monza, drove impressively to hold off challengers.
Meanwhile, championship leader Freddie Slater finished outside the points. Starting from 17th, he treated the sprint as a learning experience. His teammate, Ugo Ugochukwu, finished ninth, scoring three valuable points to close the gap in the standings. The race also saw track-limit violations, particularly at Turn 19. Enzo Deligny received a 10-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage, which benefited Ugochukwu.
With this result, Nael has immediately caught the attention of the F3 paddock. Can he continue his strong form in the main race? We'll find out at the Madring.
