David Alonso has unleashed a scathing attack on his Moto2 teammate Dani Holgado ahead of the Australian Grand Prix weekend at Phillip Island. The relationship between the two rising stars, who are both stepping up to the premier class next season, has reached boiling point following a dramatic clash at Turn 1 during the start of the Indonesian Grand Prix which resulted in a massive highside for Alonso.
The pair have shared a notoriously tense rivalry ever since their progression through the junior categories into the grand prix paddock. Although Holgado previously offered a public apology and took full responsibility for the Mandalika accident, the lingering animosity clearly remains raw as the championship arrives in Australia.
Speaking to DAZN on Thursday at Phillip Island, the Aspar rider did not hold back when assessing his relationship with his garage neighbor. “My experience with Holgado seemed just like the ones before. But, in the end, life is beautiful, and you have to keep moving forward,” Alonso stated. He added bluntly, “When you're not a good person, there's nothing you can do. I'll go about my business, and he'll go about his, and that's that.”

Alonso went further to reveal a toxic internal atmosphere within the team environment, emphasizing the complete lack of cohesion behind closed doors. “There’s no relationship, there’s no chemistry in the team - and it’s not even a team,” he declared, insisting that the on-track crash was merely a secondary issue compared to deeper backstage friction. Looking ahead to his premier class debut, Alonso has secured a seat with LCR Honda alongside Johann Zarco, viewing the structure as the ideal environment following a shuffle that saw Diogo Moreira secure promotion to the factory squad.
In response to the fiery remarks, Holgado played down the controversy, attributing his rival's outburst to the heat of the moment. “In the end, I have a lot of respect for all my rivals, because we risk our lives every time we go out on the track,” Holgado responded, maintaining that he still values their professional dynamic as they both prepare for their future battles in MotoGP.
