Marc Marquez and the MotoGP grid are reportedly set to hold another critical meeting to discuss the viability of the Qatar Grand Prix at the Lusail circuit. Security concerns across the Gulf region have taken center stage following ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the US and Iran, with a paddock insider bluntly branding the decision to race as unacceptable.
During the previous race weekend at the Australian Grand Prix, riders conducted a secret meeting and held a vote regarding their participation in Qatar. Reports indicated that roughly two-thirds of the attendees opposed racing in the region, demanding strict safety assurances and a comprehensive evacuation plan from MotoGP Group if the event proceeds.
Despite mounting resistance from the competitors, both championship promoters and Qatari officials have maintained their stance that the grand prix can go ahead as planned from November 6 to 8. The event was originally postponed from April due to military conflict, forcing organizers to push back the final rounds in Portugal and Valencia to fit the Gulf fixture into the calendar.

The shifting security landscape has prompted other major motorsport series, including the FIA WEC, WRC, and Dakar Rally, to cancel their respective events in the region. In contrast, both MotoGP and Formula 1 remain determined to press forward with their scheduled Gulf legs despite the underlying threats.
Speaking to Italian publication GPOne, an anonymous team principal voiced strong opposition to the ongoing plans. The insider stated, I personally do not believe it is a good call for both the MotoGP and F1 events to go ahead in Qatar, adding that taking such risks amid escalating hostilities must be taken very seriously.
With potential airspace closures looming over the Gulf region, the final rounds of the 2026 season face unprecedented logistical threats. While a unanimous rider vote would be required to halt the event independently, rapidly evolving security developments and international warnings may ultimately force a cancellation out of the competitors hands.
