The qualifying session for the 2026 Malaysian MotoGP at the Sepang Circuit delivered intense battles at the front as Alex Marquez emerged as the fastest rider. The Gresini rider clocked an impressive lap time of 1:56.493 aboard his Ducati, edging out his brother and closest rival to secure the coveted pole position for the weekend's races.
Tension filled the air right from the start of the grid-deciding session, especially after Jorge Martin decided to withdraw and forfeit the remainder of the Malaysian GP weekend following the conclusion of FP2 with Aprilia. This unexpected absence opened up massive opportunities for other contenders to maximize their machinery's grip and pace on the challenging Sepang asphalt.
Right behind the pole-sitter, Marc Marquez had to settle for second on the grid with a razor-thin lap time margin of 1:56.563. Meanwhile, the final spot on the front row was claimed by KTM's rising star Pedro Acosta, who put in a stellar performance with a 1:56.577 lap time.

Fierce battles unfolded further down the order as the second row was locked out by Ai Ogura in fourth, Marco Bezzecchi in fifth, and Fabio Di Giannantonio in sixth. The third row will see Enea Bastianini, Johann Zarco, and Franco Morbidelli starting next to each other as they look to make early moves during the race.
On the other hand, Francesco Bagnaia faced a tougher session, having to fight his way through Q1 alongside Johann Zarco before ultimately securing tenth on the grid. The action at Sepang continues with the Sprint race scheduled for 08:00 local time, followed by the main Grand Prix event.
