Marc Marquez immediately showcased ominous pace in the opening practice session of the Malaysian Grand Prix, setting the benchmark time at the Sepang International Circuit. The Spanish rider claimed the fastest lap to kick off a crucial weekend of championship action.
The morning session was temporarily disrupted by a red flag interruption. The stoppage was triggered after Iker Lecuona rode over a detached mudguard, scattering debris across the racing line and forcing marshals to clear the asphalt.
Beyond the top of the timesheets, all eyes were locked on Jorge Martin as he engineered a remarkable return to the grid. The championship contender faced a severe fitness test following a heavy crash and subsequent wrist fracture sustained at Phillip Island just days prior.
Despite looking visibly uncomfortable while trying to string consecutive flying laps together, the Spaniard cleared his first major hurdle by completing 12 laps. That heroic effort ultimately left him down in P20 as he managed his physical limitations.
Further up the order, rookie sensation Pedro Acosta continued his affinity for the Sepang layout by surging to third place in the classification, trailing right behind Marco Bezzecchi and leading Enea Bastianini.
