Absolute dominance was once again displayed by Marc Marquez in the latter half of the 2026 MotoGP season as the Spanish rider emerged as the fastest in the practice session of the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia at Sepang Circuit. Facing a track that demands high precision under tropical heat, multiple world champion recorded a stellar lap time of 1 minute 57.000 seconds, cementing his undefeated status throughout Friday's practice session.
Fierce competition unfolded at the top as Alex Marquez followed closely in second place with a razor-thin gap of just 0.109 seconds behind his brother. This competitive family garage dynamic proved how high-performance machinery can be tamed on the Sepang asphalt, while third position was brilliantly secured by Ai Ogura who trailed the session leader by 0.167 seconds.
Meanwhile, the battle at the front heated up further as Pedro Acosta showed significant progress by securing fourth place. The talented youngster finished just ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio who rounded out the top five. A handful of minor incidents and tightly packed lap times in the middle order colored today's session, with Marco Bezzecchi and Enea Bastianini taking sixth and seventh places respectively.

On the other hand, defending champion Francesco Bagnaia faced a tough struggle, managing only 12th position with a significant deficit of 0.807 seconds to the session pacesetter. This practice result serves as a crucial benchmark for all teams ahead of tomorrow's qualifying session to determine the starting grid, considering Sepang's tropical weather notoriously challenges tyre management and bike stability.
Teams must now work tirelessly to find the optimal setup for the remainder of the weekend. Track grip dynamics and tyre compound choices will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in the battle for pole position and race success.
