The Ducati rider arrives with momentum from two perfect weekends, scoring 37 points in each, a consistency that has propelled him to the top.
However, the battle is not just between those two. Marco Bezzecchi, who was previously a close contender at the front, had to swallow a bitter pill after crashing at Misano. That incident cut his chances to keep chasing. Now, the Italian rider is required to bounce back and reduce the deficit if he does not want to fall too far behind his rivals.
Unfortunately, the Austrian GP is once again marked by absences. Maverick Vinales is still recovering, and his seat will be filled by Pol Espargaro. Meanwhile, Joan Mir is confirmed absent as he must undergo medical tests due to abnormal blood parameters. Honda has appointed Takaaki Nakagami as his replacement.
Friday Free Practice Schedule
As usual, the smaller classes will open the free practice sessions. Moto3 will start FP1 at 09:00 local time, followed by Moto2 at 09:50. Only then will the MotoGP stars take to the track at 10:45 to begin preparations for the pole position fight.
The second Moto3 session will begin at 13:15, then Moto2 at 14:05. Finally, MotoGP will close Friday with the Practice session that determines who goes directly to Q2 on Saturday. This session will last one hour, starting at 15:00.
