The atmosphere inside the Lusail International Circuit paddock ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix is anything but ordinary. A series of behind-the-scenes developments has prompted organizers to make a last-minute adjustment to the official weekend schedule, highlighting the extraordinary circumstances surrounding this race.

The traditional Thursday press conference has been officially delayed by four hours. Originally scheduled for 16:00 local time, the media session has now been pushed back to 20:00. This rescheduling comes as a direct consequence of several riders choosing to delay their arrival in Qatar until the very last available moment.

The delayed arrivals stem from widespread unease across the paddock. Reports surfaced during the Malaysian Grand Prix that 19 out of 22 riders signed a formal letter addressed to MotoGP Group expressing opposition to racing amidst ongoing Middle East tensions. Riders have actively sought firm assurances regarding emergency evacuation protocols, comprehensive insurance coverage, and legal liability.

The grid will also be noticeably depleted in Lusail. Australian rider Jack Miller will sit out the event following Yamaha's decision to withdraw completely from the weekend. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez remains sidelined after undergoing surgery on his injured right shoulder, while Joan Mir faces uncertainty due to recurring vision issues.

Travel itineraries reflect the riders' desire to minimize their time in the region. Pedro Acosta spent the inter-race gap in Bali, while championship leader Marc Marquez opted to fly home to Spain, intending to arrive in Qatar only on Thursday evening. Elsewhere, Jorge Martin and Raul Fernandez plan to attempt riding despite health concerns that forced their mid-race retirements at Sepang.

While a four-hour delay to Thursday's media engagements may have minimal impact on track action itself, it serves as a stark indicator of the unprecedented tension and logistical hurdles overshadowing this year's Qatar Grand Prix.
