Jorge Martin once again asserted his dominance in the 2026 MotoGP season. The Aprilia rider defeated Marc Marquez in both the sprint race and the main event at the Austrian GP, extending his championship lead to 12 points. This double victory proves that Martin is not just a contender but a serious threat to Marquez and Ducati.
With maximum points from Austria, Martin now sits on 306 points, 12 ahead of Marquez, who remains on 294. Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi, also on an Aprilia, is third with 264 points, 42 points adrift of Martin. The title fight is heating up, and the pressure is now on Marquez to turn the tide in the remaining races.
A phenomenal weekend for Pedro Acosta. The young rider finally claimed his first MotoGP victory, a significant milestone in his career. Thanks to this result, Acosta jumped to fourth in the standings, with Bezzecchi ahead and Fabio Di Giannantonio and Ai Ogura breathing down his neck.

In the Ducati camp, Francesco Bagnaia is still stuck in ninth place with 156 points. The two-time world champion has yet to find his best form on the Desmosedici this season, trailing his teammate Marquez by a considerable margin. Meanwhile, Enea Bastianini on the KTM is 12th with 97 points, and Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha is 15th with 61 points.
Interestingly, Takaaki Nakagami managed to score three additional points in Austria. Such small points can be crucial in the battle for final positions, especially for riders who consistently finish in the points. On the other hand, several backmarkers have yet to open their account, including Cal Crutchlow, Lorenzo Savadori, and Michele Pirro.
The current standings show that Aprilia has become the dominant force in MotoGP 2026. With Martin and Bezzecchi in first and third, the Noale manufacturer is challenging Ducati's hegemony represented by Marquez and Di Giannantonio. However, Ducati still has a strong squad to put up a fight until the end of the season.
With 12 points separating Martin and Marquez, every race will be a fierce battle. The upcoming circuits will test Martin's consistency and Marquez's ability to bounce back. Will Martin maintain his lead, or will Marquez reclaim the throne? One thing is clear: the Austrian GP has proven that Jorge Martin is the main challenger for the 2026 MotoGP title.
