KTM faces a complex technical challenge in restoring the optimal performance of the RC16 motorcycle during race starts this season. While the Austrian manufacturer has shown significant progress in maximizing soft rear tire grip during time-attack sessions, their competitive advantage off the line has noticeably deteriorated compared to their direct rivals on the grid.
Prior to the regulatory shift, KTM machinery was widely recognized as one of the most effective starters in the premier class. However, that baseline advantage appeared to diminish relative to the competition after the front holeshot device was banned starting from the Assen round, forcing engineers to search for alternative solutions to regain their initial acceleration edge.
Red Bull KTM team manager Aki Ajo conceded that the rule modification has played a measurable part in their current struggles. Nonetheless, he was quick to stress that competing manufacturers across the championship are also implementing continuous development upgrades to bridge any performance gaps.

'For sure the rule change is also affecting in some way, and, of course, also everyone is improving all the time in this category,' Aki Ajo told MotoGP pit lane reporter Jack Appleyard at Mandalika.
Throughout the ongoing campaign thus far, star rider Pedro Acosta has secured a season-best qualifying result of pole position at Catalunya, alongside a low of tenth on the grid during sessions at Mugello and Sachsenring. The talented young Spanish competitor currently holds fifth position overall in the World Championship standings.
