Chaz Mostert returns to Mount Panorama with a unique story from last year. After retiring early due to engine failure, he grabbed attention by stopping to enjoy a beer with fans at The Chase. That moment went viral and is now immortalized in a special 'Chazhurst' t-shirt.
The shirt, launched by Walkinshaw TWG Racing, depicts Mostert's journey at Bathurst, including his two wins and the helicopter incident in 2015. "Bathurst is just around the corner and the engineers have been cooking up a 'you beauty' for the merchandise tent," Mostert said in a team video. "Obviously last year was a pretty 'mountain moment' up there on the hill, which wasn't a good one, so we decided to add my whole track record at Bathurst. There's been a lot of highs, there's been a lot of helicopter trips and a lot of beers, not just for me but for all the punters out there."
Meanwhile, Triple Eight has also released new merchandise to mark the 20th anniversary of its maiden victory at the event. The drop includes a t-shirt, cap, and stubby cooler in the colours of the race-winning Betta Electrical Ford Falcon. Notably, the promotions are devoid of Craig Lowndes, who chose to stick with General Motors. Lowndes was the big story 20 years ago as he took the chequered flag in tears just weeks after the death of mentor Peter Brock.
Wildcard team Garry Rogers Motorsport is also embracing nostalgia as it returns to the Great Race in honour of its late founder, who passed away last October. The team is offering retro-themed merchandise to fit with a livery based off its 2000 race-winning Holden Commodore, which will be on display at the event.
The Repco Bathurst 1000 will take place across October 8-11. With these stories and unique preparations, the event is more than just a race; it's a celebration for fans and teams alike.
