Miyata took a maiden Sprint Race victory in Spain 2026 amid high drama as championship leader Nikola Tsolov spun out of the race. The incident came after Tsolov grew frustrated with Campos teammate Noel Leon, who refused to yield. The Madrid race also left Rafael Camara and Leon under investigation for cutting the chicane.
From the start, Miyata lunged from second to pass pole-sitter Fittipaldi. But before the first lap ended, the Safety Car appeared due to multiple collisions. Camara lost his front wing endplate after contact with Stenshorne, while Varrone was eliminated after being hit by Maini. Racing resumed on lap five.
At the front, Tsolov ran fifth and faced pressure from Camara, who tried to overtake. Camara cut the chicane several times to defend, an action immediately noted by the Race Director. Meanwhile, a fierce battle for third unfolded between Van Hoepen and Leon. Leon was also involved in a similar incident with Dunne and Camara, putting his position at risk.

The climax came on lap 14. Tsolov, stuck behind Leon, could not find a way past his teammate. Campos issued no team orders, and Tsolov's frustration boiled over. He lost control and spun, forcing him to retire. Tsolov had been the championship leader.
Ahead, Miyata drove calmly to secure his first win of the season. Fittipaldi had to settle for second, followed by Van Hoepen in third. However, the results are not final as Camara (finished sixth) and Leon (fourth) are still under investigation for gaining an advantage by cutting the chicane. The final decision will come after the race.
Tsolov's incident could have major championship implications. As the leader, losing points in such a tight battle is costly. Meanwhile, Miyata seized the momentum to close in. This Sprint race is also a reminder that intra-team pressure can backfire.
With these provisional results, Formula 2 is heating up. The Spanish round marks a turning point for Miyata and a nightmare for Tsolov. We await the stewards' decision and a season that promises even more intensity.
