Mitch Evans has admitted he is approaching the 2026 Formula E title fight differently after learning important lessons from previous championship campaigns. The Jaguar driver is now focusing on taking each race individually rather than becoming overly obsessed with the championship standings.

Evans re-entered serious title contention following a spectacular victory in the second Berlin E-Prix race. Starting from 17th on the grid, the New Zealander fought through the field to secure victory and now sits only three points behind championship leader Pascal Wehrlein.

The Berlin triumph arrived just days after Jaguar officially confirmed that Evans will leave the team at the end of the season, bringing a decade-long partnership between driver and manufacturer to a close.

During his time with Jaguar, Evans has achieved almost everything possible in Formula E except the one target that continues to define his career: a drivers’ world championship. He has come close multiple times and has often described himself as “always the bridesmaid and never the bride.”

With nine rounds still remaining this season, beginning with the Monaco E-Prix this weekend, Evans once again has a realistic opportunity to finally secure his first Formula E world title.

So far in 2026, Evans has collected two victories and two additional podium finishes from the opening eight races. That level of consistency has kept him firmly in the championship battle alongside Wehrlein and Oliver Rowland.

However, unlike previous seasons, Evans is now deliberately trying to maintain a calmer and more measured approach to the title pressure.

“I’m just taking each race as it comes and trying to optimise everything. I just want to keep accumulating as many points as possible and see where we end up, rather than fixating too much on the championship,” Evans told RacingNews365.

Evans admitted that in previous years he became too focused on the championship fight and believes that mentality ultimately did not help his overall performance throughout the season.

“I’ve done that in the past, and I don’t think it really helped. The most important thing now is that we stay in the fight and maximise points whenever they are available,” he added.

Despite his strong form, Evans also acknowledged that he still needs to improve his qualifying performances to strengthen his championship challenge. He hopes to become more competitive in pole position battles and duel appearances during the second half of the season.

With the 2026 Formula E title race becoming increasingly competitive and nine rounds still remaining, Evans’ new mindset is emerging as one of the key storylines in a championship battle that could continue all the way to the season finale.
