Mercedes believes it has finally taken a positive step forward with its troublesome Formula 1 upgrade package at the United States Grand Prix 2026 in Austin.
The Silver Arrows previously suffered an unexpected performance regression after introducing new parts in Malaysia, forcing the team to run a split-car specification strategy between Andrea Kimi Antonelli and George Russell in recent rounds.
However, those teething troubles appear to be easing this weekend as both drivers were fitted with the revised components at Circuit of The Americas, marking a pivotal moment for the team's development approach toward 2027.

Early signs on track were encouraging with Antonelli bouncing back from a difficult opening practice to finish just fractions behind Ferrari.
Mercedes Deputy Team Principal Bradley Lord shed light on the setup turnaround after Friday's running.
"Neither driver was very happy after FP1, talking about really struggling to get the car stopped and into the corners," Lord told Sky Sports F1.
"We made some changes over the break, and both of them came back in after the first run saying that the car was rotating and that they can get it through the corners without having to use the throttle too much and overheat the rear tyres."
Lord confirmed that no physical alterations were made to the core package that originally debuted in Malaysia, with gains coming strictly from setup optimization.
"So, we made a decent step forward. Hopefully there's a bit more to come overnight, but it looked a lot more solid at least," he added.
The battle at the sharp end remains fiercely contested, with the top front-running teams separated by mere tenths during long-run simulations.
"We were looking at the overlays of the long runs and you've got to squint at it to really see too much difference between Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Kimi, Lando Norris looks strong as well," Lord continued.
"So, it's going to be a very close battle between all eight cars, I think. And similarly on the single lap, it's a matter of a tenth or half a tenth here of there. It's going to be really hard-fought and exciting."
The weekend also carries historic implications as Antonelli heads into Sunday with a mathematical chance to clinch his maiden F1 world championship.
