Ahead of the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, George Russell has candidly admitted that the Silver Arrows squad is still working extensively to understand and optimize their problematic aerodynamic upgrade package.
While the F1 paddock buzzes with championship contenders and title scenarios, the engineering garage at Brackley has spent considerable effort evaluating the new components that initially failed to deliver the expected balance and performance gains on track.
"It's nothing to do with me really, so you know, as a team it's been an interesting couple of races," Russell told the media in Austin. "We obviously brought that big upgrade and it didn't perform quite as we hoped."

Rather than panicking over the initial data mismatch, Mercedes utilized subsequent track sessions to gather extensive back-to-back telemetry, ensuring the development direction remains sound despite the initial setup hurdles.
"We then got really good info doing the back-to-back, and we're confident the upgrade is the way to go, but it just needs some more time to fine-tune the set-up to get the most out of it," he explained.
According to Motorsport.com, the pressure remains high as rival teams continue to introduce aggressive updates of their own. Returning to a traditional race weekend format in Austin provides the team with three crucial practice sessions to unlock optimal performance from the car.
