Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team has confirmed that its team personnel who were in Bahrain for a Pirelli tyre test have now safely returned to the United Kingdom following escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The Brackley-based squad was conducting an official tyre development test alongside Formula 1 last weekend when the regional situation intensified after coordinated strikes involving the United States and Israel targeting Iran. The escalation created instability across several nearby areas, including Bahrain, prompting concerns over the safety of personnel present for the test.
In response to the situation, Formula 1 and Pirelli opted to abandon the test early as a precautionary measure. The decision was taken to prioritise the safety of team members and technical staff working at the circuit, particularly as travel disruptions began affecting the region.

Attention then shifted to ensuring that Formula 1 personnel in Bahrain could return home safely. Mercedes confirmed that the team members involved in the tyre test have now completed their journey back to the UK without incident.
“Those who were in Bahrain for the tyre test from our team have now returned back to the UK,” a Mercedes spokesperson said.
The team also confirmed that staff required for the upcoming Australian Grand Prix will continue travelling to Melbourne, including reserve driver Frederik Vesti. They are expected to arrive in Australia by Thursday evening ahead of the race weekend at Albert Park Circuit.
The broader geopolitical situation has already raised questions over upcoming races in the region, including the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which are scheduled to take place in just over a month.
Team principal Toto Wolff stressed that it is too early to speculate on potential implications for the Formula 1 calendar.
“With the ongoing situation in the Middle East, it seems trivial to talk about sport,” Wolff said.
“We watch the developing events in the region with concern and hope that the protection of civilian life remains paramount.”
“With the planned tyre test in Bahrain, we have had several team members affected who thankfully have now been able to leave the country safely.”
“With such a serious situation unfolding, it would be unhelpful to talk about the possible further impact on Formula 1 over the coming weeks.”
“We know that the FIA and Formula 1 will continue to monitor events and make the necessary and correct decisions as and when they need to.”
