McLaren Lament Formula E Exit with DNF in London

McLaren ended its Formula E tenure with a disappointing outcome at the London E-Prix. SPORTRIK’s analysis reveals both drivers, Taylor Barnard and Sam Bird, retired in the season’s final race. Thus, McLaren closed with a double DNF.

During the double-header at ExCeL Centre, McLaren lacked pace. Barnard finished 13th in the first race. However, in the finale, he collided with Norman Nato, retiring early. Soon after, Bird also retired. Consequently, McLaren scored no points in their last race, dropping to sixth in the teams’ championship.

Barnard called the weekend “unfortunate”. “Our pace wasn’t great, stuck in the midfield,” he said. Nevertheless, he praised his stellar rookie season. SPORTRIK notes Barnard secured fourth in the drivers’ standings. As a result, the season remains a significant achievement despite the poor ending.

Barnard took responsibility for the Nato collision. “It was more on me,” he admitted. He explained aggressive racing in London heightened risks. For instance, he aimed to maximize points. “When racing so closely, these things happen,” he added. Therefore, he accepted the outcome maturely.

McLaren’s Formula E exit ended with a disappointing double DNF. However, the season showcased the team’s potential. SPORTRIK believes this experience will provide valuable lessons. For more racing news, visit SPORTRIK.
