The controversy surrounding the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix result is entering a new phase. McLaren and Red Bull will appeal the decision to reinstate Pierre Gasly to third place after his pit-lane speeding penalty was overturned. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, 25 August, at the FIA headquarters in Paris, following the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
The saga began when the FIA admitted that the pit-lane speed limit at Monte Carlo had been miscalculated. Gasly was originally handed two time penalties for exceeding the limit, dropping him from third to seventh. However, Alpine won a right of review, and Gasly was reinstated to the podium.
The problem is that other drivers, such as Oscar Piastri, had already served their penalties during the race. The stewards were therefore powerless to overturn them. This situation prompted protests from McLaren and Red Bull, who argue that Gasly benefited unfairly from the FIA's error.

The decision also had a major impact on Isack Hadjar, who briefly stood on the podium in third after Gasly was penalized. He had to hand over his maiden trophy to his fellow countryman, dropping to fourth, while Piastri moved up to fifth.
In an official statement, McLaren emphasized that the case raises important questions about sporting fairness and regulatory consistency. They fear that if left unchallenged, it could set a dangerous precedent. Piastri called it a "tricky precedent" that might encourage teams or drivers to challenge penalties already served.
The appeal hearing will be held behind closed doors, and the outcome is eagerly awaited by fans. Will the Monaco result change again, or will the initial decision be upheld? We'll have to wait and see.
