The opening day of Moto3 action at the Lusail International Circuit delivered intense drama as Maximo Quiles bounced back from an earlier crash in FP1 to top Friday's proceedings ahead of the 2026 Qatar Grand Prix. The Aspar rider did not let his heavy fall affect his performance under the floodlights, setting the pace with a blistering lap time of 2 minutes 03.172 seconds to secure a direct spot in Q2.
Riding solo for the majority of the session, David Almansa pushed his fellow countryman to the limit, with the two riders swapping places at the top of the timesheets on their KTM machines before Almansa ultimately finished just 0.200 seconds adrift. Behind the leading duo, David Munoz also suffered a fall in FP1 but recovered brilliantly, utilizing a tow from Ryusei Yamanaka to climb from 12th up to third position.
Rookie sensation Hakim Danish maintained a strong presence at the sharp end of the field, ending the day as the top rookie in fourth place for MT Helmets. Meanwhile, Veda Ega Pratama put in a solid performance for Honda Team Asia to finish inside the top five as the leading Honda rider, despite carrying a six-place grid penalty for a yellow flag infringement.

Further down the tightly contested timesheets, fellow rookie Rico Salmela claimed sixth on his Lusail debut for Red Bull KTM Tech3, while Adrian Fernandez secured eighth for Leopard Racing. The battle for automatic Q2 qualification went down to the wire, with Valentin Perrone taking 13th place while Kiattisak Singhapong slipped down to 24th following an early crash at turn nine.
