Max Verstappen will not attend the opening parade for the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours in the town of Adenau due to safety concerns. The decision comes ahead of one of the most anticipated endurance racing events of the year, which has gained additional global attention because of Verstappen’s debut appearance.
The traditional Nürburgring 24 Hours parade is scheduled to take place on Wednesday afternoon local time as part of the official opening celebrations before cars head onto the circuit for track action on Thursday. However, Verstappen Racing will not participate in the ceremony.
Verstappen’s absence also means team-mates Jules Gounon, Dani Juncadella, and Lucas Auer will not attend the parade, which normally serves as one of the main fan attractions in central Adenau during race week.
According to information obtained by RacingNews365, the decision was strongly recommended by event organisers because of safety considerations. Verstappen’s enormous popularity is expected to attract exceptionally large crowds throughout the Nürburgring weekend.
Organisers reportedly fear that the huge number of fans specifically attending to see the four-time Formula 1 world champion could create overcrowding and potential security risks around the parade area and paddock facilities.
For the same reason, Verstappen will also not participate in the official meet-and-greet and autograph sessions scheduled to take place at the circuit during the Nürburgring 24 Hours event.
The organisers stressed that the decision was not due to any unwillingness from Verstappen to interact with supporters, but instead represents a preventative measure designed to prioritise safety for everyone involved.
Verstappen’s Nürburgring 24 Hours debut has become one of the biggest stories in endurance racing this season. The Red Bull Racing driver will compete in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 alongside Verstappen Racing in one of the most physically demanding and technically difficult races in world motorsport.
