Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is set to make his highly anticipated debut in the GT World Challenge Europe during this weekend's thrilling season finale at Portimao. This move follows his stellar performances on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, where only an unexpected technical problem prevented an overall victory during his debut at the Nurburgring 24 Hours.
The star driver, widely known for his dominance with Red Bull, returns to the cockpit of the Mercedes-AMG GT3. His appearance in Europe's premier GT3 championship was made possible because regular Verstappen Racing drivers Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon are busy competing in the World Endurance Championship race in Barcelona, which was scheduled as a replacement for the cancelled 6 Hours of Qatar.
Verstappen will share the #3 Verstappen Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with regular driver and sim racing teammate Chris Lulham, alongside experienced GT racer Ben Barnicoat who joins the squad as a sub. The setup is carefully managed by 2 Seas Motorsport to ensure maximum competitiveness on track.

Organized by the SRO Motorsports Group, the GT World Challenge Europe is widely regarded as the absolute pinnacle of GT3 racing globally. The championship is thoughtfully split into the Sprint Cup, featuring intense 60-minute sprints, and the Endurance Cup, which tests machines and drivers over three, six, and grueling 24-hour marathons.
While other series offer fierce competition, many team bosses view the GTWC Europe Endurance Cup as the toughest GT3 championship anywhere in motorsport. With fields consistently ranging between 50 and 60 entries, around 20 different cars can realistically challenge for the overall win in the premier Pro class where Verstappen will battle.
