The Mexico City GP weekend at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez has featured intense Red Bull drama after Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson collided during the second free practice session. Although the reigning world champion voiced strong frustration in the media pen on Friday, both drivers officially cleared the air following a face-to-face meeting on Saturday morning.
Verstappen qualified fourth for the main grand prix but was handed a one-place grid penalty by the FIA stewards due to the practice collision. The severity of the punishment caught many in the paddock by surprise, as practice incidents rarely result in grid drops. Addressing the stewards' intention to use the incident as a deterrent, the Dutchman remained pragmatic about the ruling.

"How do I see the penalty? Well, it's a bit like when you watch other sports and sometimes see decisions being made. You can agree or disagree with them," Verstappen told Dutch media in the paddock. "Of course, I have my own opinion on it, but I've already said everything that I wanted to say about it – internally as well." When asked if he felt singled out by the stewards to set an example, he replied, "I don't want to say too much about that. It is what it is."
Meanwhile, Lawson took the initiative to visit the Red Bull motorhome early Saturday morning to apologize directly to his rival. The young charger, currently fighting to secure his future on the F1 grid, admitted that the contact was completely unintentional and emphasized his determination to learn from the mistake.
"Obviously, it's not ideal and something that should never happen in practice," Lawson reflected a day after the clash. "I went to see Max this morning to apologise, because obviously it was never my intention to make contact. It’s not good for both of us, I'll learn from it going forward." The private discussion successfully smoothed over tensions within the camp, allowing both competitors to shift their full focus to Sunday's race strategy.
