Marc Marquez secured a stunning victory at the 2026 San Marino MotoGP after his main rival, Marco Bezzecchi, crashed out of the lead on the opening lap. The win also propels Marc Marquez to the top of the championship standings for the first time this season.

The race was action-packed from the start. Bezzecchi, starting from pole, led the early stages but lost control through the fast right-handers and lowsided. That handed the advantage to Marquez, but Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing had other ideas. Martin overtook Marquez on lap 7 of 27 and briefly took the lead.

However, Marquez quickly reclaimed the top spot. The challenge then came from his own brother, Alex Marquez, who brought his Gresini Racing machine up to second. Alex closed the gap to within half a second, setting up a thrilling Marquez family duel.

Meanwhile, Martin's pace faded dramatically. He was passed by KTM's Pedro Acosta and Gresini's Fermin Aldeguer, which cost him the championship lead. Acosta went on to finish third, with Aldeguer fourth.

Bezzecchi wasn't the only retirement. Francesco Bagnaia and Diogo Moreira also crashed, while Jack Miller, Joan Mir, and Alex Rins retired with technical issues. Johann Zarco was the final rider to withdraw. All riders opted for medium compound front and rear tyres.

With this result, Marquez now leads the championship, followed by Acosta and Aldeguer who impressed. The next round takes place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria next weekend. Can Marquez maintain his momentum? Only time will tell.
