Marquez Tops MotoGP Rider Rankings at Misano 2026

Marc Marquez once again asserted his dominance in MotoGP 2026. At the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano, the Spanish rider delivered a stunning performance by winning both the sprint and the main race, simultaneously topping The Race's rider rankings for the weekend.

From free practice, Marquez showed impressive speed. Starting from second on the grid, he used the medium rear tyre and a smart approach to Turn 1 to snatch the sprint win. In the main race, after his closest rival, Marco Bezzecchi, crashed out, Marquez controlled the race to the chequered flag.

Interestingly, Misano is known for punishing the right side of the body, an area where Marquez is still recovering from injury. Nevertheless, he was the top Ducati in every session. "I would sign right now for a podium," he said on Friday, downplaying his chances despite eventually winning. That statement might have been mind games, but the on-track evidence spoke otherwise.

Behind Marquez, Pedro Acosta once again showcased his class. The KTM rider crashed on Friday but bounced back to be the only KTM rider capable of fighting at the front. He complained about the RC16's braking performance but still brought home a third-place podium in the main race. "This is a podium we never expected," he admitted.

Fermin Aldeguer also caught the eye. Despite a technical issue on Friday and still recovering from injury, he finished fourth in the main race. On an older bike, his performance at Misano was nothing short of remarkable. Meanwhile, Luca Marini had his best weekend of the season, qualifying sixth and finishing ninth, though a late-race vibration forced him to nurse the bike to the finish.

With this result, Marquez strengthens his grip on the championship lead, while Acosta and Aldeguer prove they are serious contenders for the remainder of the season. The San Marino Grand Prix is proof that the battle in MotoGP 2026 is heating up, and the Spanish riders continue to dominate.
