Marc Marquez set the fastest time in the second free practice session for the Austrian MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring, clocking a 1:29.663, even after a late crash. The incident marked his 12th crash of the 2026 season, but it didn't prevent the Spaniard from leading the session.
Marquez remained two seconds off Jorge Martin's 2024 all-time lap record, yet he finished ahead of the Aprilia rider and Pedro Acosta, who completed the top three.
Fermin Aldeguer took fourth, followed by factory Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia in fifth. Bagnaia faces a challenging morning as he prepares for a Q1 showdown after a difficult Friday at the Austrian GP.
Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo brought his Yamaha home in an encouraging sixth, ahead of Alex Marquez in seventh. Enea Bastianini, Johann Zarco, and Raul Fernandez completed the top 10.
Fabio Di Giannantonio followed in 11th ahead of Pol Espargaro, while Brad Binder could only manage 13th for KTM's home Grand Prix. Ai Ogura secured P14, with Marco Bezzecchi finishing a discreet 15th.
With this result, Marquez demonstrated solid speed despite the crash. Qualifying will be a test, especially for Bagnaia, who must fight from Q1. The competition at the Red Bull Ring is expected to intensify given the circuit's demand for high precision.
Binder's failure to perform in front of his home crowd is a talking point, while Quartararo offers hope for Yamaha. Sunday's race will be a true test for the riders to translate practice results into race performance.
