Marc Marquez believes the 2026 French MotoGP at Le Mans will present “many unknowns”, including unpredictable weather conditions capable of dramatically influencing the weekend. The Ducati Lenovo rider arrives in France under increasing pressure following a difficult start to the season.

Unlike last year, when Marquez surged toward a dominant ninth world title, the 2026 campaign has developed into a far more complicated situation. After four rounds, Marquez is still without a grand prix podium and currently sits fifth in the championship standings, trailing leader Marco Bezzecchi by 44 points.

Marquez has lost points to Bezzecchi at every round so far this season. During the most recent event at Jerez, he recovered from a chaotic Sprint victory only to crash in the main grand prix. Although he rebounded with fourth place during Monday’s test behind three Aprilia machines, Ducati’s overall competitiveness remains inconsistent.

“Le Mans is a track that I like and where I was already very fast with the Desmosedici GP last year,” Marquez explained.

From a technical perspective, Le Mans is expected to become one of the least predictable weekends of the season. Current forecasts indicate a risk of thunderstorms on Saturday and light rain during Sunday’s race. The circuit’s stop-and-go nature also places extreme emphasis on front-tyre temperature control, braking stability, and traction on corner exit, all areas Ducati continues trying to refine with the GP26 package.

Marquez admitted Ducati made encouraging progress during the post-race Jerez test, particularly after evaluating several new setup directions aimed at improving overall bike balance. However, he warned rapidly changing weather conditions could still dramatically alter the competitive order between manufacturers.

“It will be a weekend with many unknowns. The weather might give us some surprises,” Marquez said.

Meanwhile, team-mate Francesco Bagnaia also reported important progress from the Jerez test, especially regarding aerodynamic behaviour and high-speed cornering performance. Ducati evaluated revised aero concepts intended to improve turning capability during fast corner entry, an area where the GP26 has struggled compared to previous seasons.

Bagnaia additionally revealed Ducati is working on new electronic solutions to improve braking behaviour during heavy deceleration zones. Although a complete solution has not yet been achieved, the Italian believes the data gathered in Jerez could help Ducati become more competitive at Le Mans and future circuits.

“I’m very happy and satisfied with the aerodynamics because I think we made a step in cornering. It was something I was missing a lot this year,” Bagnaia explained.

Le Mans has historically been one of Ducati’s strongest circuits, with the manufacturer winning five consecutive editions through five different riders before Johann Zarco ended that streak for LCR Honda during the rain-affected 2025 event. However, Bagnaia has never won the French MotoGP in the premier class and currently sits only ninth in the championship standings.

With the title fight tightening rapidly and Aprilia emerging as a significantly stronger challenger than in previous MotoGP eras, the Le Mans weekend is now viewed as a critical opportunity for Ducati to stop losing momentum during the opening phase of the 2026 season.
