Marini Set to Miss Suzuka 8 Hours Over Setup Issue

MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Luca Marini has outlined the technical reason behind his likely absence from the 2026 Suzuka 8 Hours with Honda, despite team-mate Johann Zarco confirming his participation.

The Italian rider had previously been set to join Honda’s factory HRC line-up alongside Zarco and Takumi Takahashi, before a serious testing crash in 2025 ruled him out of the event and several MotoGP rounds.

Beyond the injury, Marini highlighted a core technical challenge in endurance racing: achieving a shared bike setup that suits riders with significantly different physical dimensions.

In endurance events like Suzuka, multiple riders share a single machine, requiring compromises in ergonomics such as seating position, weight distribution, and control layout to accommodate all team members.

“For endurance racing, I need team-mates with a similar height. Otherwise, the bike becomes uncomfortable and difficult to adjust properly for everyone,” Marini explained.

“When you have to stay on the bike for an hour during a stint, confidence and comfort are crucial.”

The height difference between Marini (1.84m) and Zarco (1.71m) plays a significant role, influencing weight transfer and rider positioning, particularly in long-distance racing where consistency is key.

With Marini unlikely to participate, Honda is expected to rely on Zarco and Takahashi, potentially joined by Jonathan Rea. This combination previously proved effective, securing victory at the 2025 Suzuka 8 Hours.

The final Honda line-up will be crucial in determining competitiveness at Suzuka 2026, particularly in balancing performance, consistency, and rider compatibility within an endurance racing framework.
