Luca Marini has finally spoken about his future, which at one point seemed to point towards another manufacturer. The Italian rider admitted he had an opportunity to join Yamaha for the 2027 MotoGP season, before ultimately settling on Tech3 KTM.
The decision came after Marini was told by Honda that his contract would not be renewed for next season. Since then, his name has been linked to several teams, including a factory Yamaha seat that was an attractive option.
When asked by media at the Aragon GP why he chose KTM over Yamaha, Marini answered diplomatically. "This is not the right place to talk about this. But for sure there was an opportunity. But at the end, every time I tried to do my best, even talking with people about the decision, everything went like this... just enjoy the next year," he said.
Marini also admitted he felt sad when Honda decided not to keep him. Since joining the Japanese factory team at the end of 2023, he has been a valuable asset in the development of the RC213V.
"Of course, at the beginning, when I was speaking with Honda and they told me the decision, I was a little bit sad. But I understood, and I needed to accept this and move forward. Now, fully motivated on the new project," Marini explained.
Despite the split, Marini still appreciates his valuable experience with Honda. "I'm really satisfied with what we did. I'm pleased to work with great people in my garage. Everybody gave me something," he added.
With his future now settled, Marini is fully focused on the rest of the season with Honda. His goal remains consistently finishing in the top ten in every session and race. "I never felt I would lose my place in MotoGP because I had some options. I just tried to find the best solution, and I think that's what I did," he concluded.
