Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi has firmly insisted that he has not given up on his 2026 MotoGP championship ambitions despite a growing points deficit. The Italian rider claimed that there would be zero point in competing on the world championship grid if he did not genuinely believe in his mathematical chances to fight for the ultimate prize.
The current state of affairs inside the Aprilia factory garage leaves Bezzecchi as their primary remaining hope to secure a historic maiden riders' crown in the premier class. This responsibility weighs even heavier following the unfortunate withdrawal of his teammate, Jorge Martin, who had to sit out the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend due to an injury.
Bezzecchi's championship bid took another hit as his deficit expanded to 52 points following a third-place finish in Saturday's sprint race at Sepang. He crossed the line behind Marc Marquez during a challenging afternoon affected by light rainfall that caught out several riders on the grid.

When asked by broadcasters if he still believes in capturing the 2026 crown despite his current standing in the championship table, Bezzecchi delivered a blunt response. I still believe in the title; otherwise, there would be no point in coming to the races, he stated clearly.
Having qualified fifth on the starting grid, the Italian managed to orchestrate a solid recovery to fight for the podium positions during the damp sprint encounter. He successfully executed a late move to snatch third place away from Trackhouse competitor Ai Ogura in the closing stages.
I am happy because it was a good sprint, Bezzecchi reflected after stepping out of his RS-GP prototype. It was not easy with these changing conditions, but having someone in front to act as a reference when the rain started actually helped me understand how much more I could push.
While he admitted having no immediate answer to match the pace of the leading group once he cleared traffic, Bezzecchi gathered crucial data for the upcoming main race. Observing how his rivals handled their machinery provided valuable insights that he intends to use for Sunday's grand prix showdown. Read our in-depth analysis and latest paddock updates.
