The race weekend for Marco Bezzecchi at the Lusail International Circuit faced intense scrutiny after it was revealed he was among the rare few riders who declined to sign a joint letter opposing the event. Amid escalating regional tensions that triggered fierce debates throughout the paddock, the Aprilia Racing star opted to concentrate strictly on sporting matters while placing full trust in championship organizers.

Security anxieties regarding the Middle East region had dominated rider discussions ahead of the event, with 19 out of 22 grid members drafting a letter to championship management stating they would refuse to race unless the series assumed absolute personal responsibility for any safety failures. However, series organizers held firm against the ultimatum, threatening strict sporting sanctions for any boycotts, while Yamaha ultimately withdrew from the weekend due to strict corporate travel policies.

Amid the division among competitors, Bezzecchi alongside Ai Ogura and Johann Zarco chose not to endorse the protest letter. While paddock whispers suggested his stance was heavily tied to his fading championship aspirations, Bezzecchi candidly addressed the media on Friday in Qatar to clarify his position on the matter.

"As I've always said, from the outside it might seem like I only did it for the title fight," Bezzecchi told reporters in the media pen. While acknowledging that the timing aligned with his championship standings, he emphasized that the underlying issue had been evaluated long before tensions boiled over among the riders.

Reiterating his faith in the governing bodies, the Italian rider stressed that safety remains paramount for the series leadership. "If the organizers thought coming here was the right decision, I don't think they're crazy enough to send us somewhere without being sure. So I've always trusted them, and then, obviously, it became more of a necessity. But, in the end, I'm happy," he concluded regarding his presence on the grid.
