Marco Bezzecchi endured a frustrating Japanese Grand Prix sprint at Motegi after a bold tyre gamble spectacularly backfired. Opting for the medium rear Michelin compound, the Aprilia rider lacked crucial pace and slipped back to a lonely sixth-place finish.
The Italian had looked formidable during morning practice sessions on the same medium rubber, prompting a calculated risk for the half-distance afternoon showdown. Yet, when the lights went out, the promising practice pace vanished into thin air.
An early-race crash triggered by Alex Marquez eliminated several front-runners, presenting an unexpected opportunity. Instead of capitalizing on the chaos, Bezzecchi struggled for grip and watched his rivals pull away effortlessly.

Speaking to Motorsport.com, a bewildered Bezzecchi admitted he had no logical explanation for being roughly a second too slow per lap compared to his practice data. Meanwhile, teammate Jorge Martin managed his soft compound effectively to secure a hard-fought podium finish.
The disappointing sprint result deals another blow to Bezzecchi's championship aspirations. The factory Aprilia squad must now quickly regroup and find a solution before Sunday's main Grand Prix.
