Marc Marquez Wins MotoGP San Marino Sprint 2026

Marc Marquez once again proved why he's the sprint king of MotoGP 2026. At Misano, on Saturday afternoon, the Ducati rider defeated polesitter Marco Bezzecchi to claim his sixth sprint victory of the season. This win was crucial to close the gap to Jorge Martin at the top of the standings.

From the moment the lights went out, Marquez was on a mission. Starting from second, he passed Bezzecchi into Turn 1, just as he did at Aragon two weeks ago. Meanwhile, behind him, Fabio Di Giannantonio barged past Aldeguer at Turn 4, opening the door for Martin to snatch fourth.

Bezzecchi, on soft tires, initially matched Marquez's pace. But the Ducati rider gradually pulled away, building a one-second lead by lap five. In the second half, Bezzecchi began to close in, halving the gap on lap eight. However, the reigning world champion responded with the fastest lap to extend his advantage back to 0.8s. Marquez held on to win by 1.068s.

Behind the leading duo, Jorge Martin finished third. The Aprilia rider initially struggled to pass Di Giannantonio but took third on lap seven and pulled away. Alex Marquez capitalized on a fierce battle between Pedro Acosta and Aldeguer to take fifth, despite crashing twice in qualifying. Acosta had to settle for sixth, ahead of Raul Fernandez and Aldeguer.

The final point went to Luca Marini. The Honda rider survived a mid-race incident triggered by Fabio Quartararo to finish ninth on home soil. Johann Zarco completed the top ten for LCR Honda.

For Marquez, this was his sixth sprint win out of seven sprints held this season. This dominance cements his status as the best rider on Saturdays. The Misano win also reduces the gap to Martin in the standings, although the exact positions are yet to be officially calculated.

Bezzecchi had to settle for second after starting from pole. He was competitive on the Aprilia but couldn't match Marquez's pace. Martin completed the podium, while Di Giannantonio finished fourth. The race was tight, with several incidents adding drama to the sprint.
