Marc Marquez once again stamped his authority on the MotoGP Sprint format. The Ducati rider secured victory at Misano after a fierce battle with Marco Bezzecchi, with Jorge Martin completing the podium. The result further intensifies the championship fight between the two main protagonists.
From the moment the lights went out, Marquez showed incredible intensity. His brutal start immediately seized the lead from pole-sitter Bezzecchi. Tyre strategy was key: Marquez opted for the medium rear, while Bezzecchi gambled on the soft. This difference made Marquez aware that the early laps would be crucial.
“When I went out, the plan was to try to take the lead because I was on the medium rear and Bezzecchi had chosen the soft. In those first laps, like in Aragon, they were dangerous,” Marquez said after the race.
The rider nicknamed The Ant opened a small gap and seemed to control the situation. However, Bezzecchi never gave up. The Italian gradually closed the gap, forcing Marquez to push harder in the final laps. “I saw a gap opening, relaxed a bit, and then saw Marco coming back. So I attacked in the last laps because we had the pace. I was just managing the risk,” he admitted.
This victory takes Marquez's tally to 21 wins from 75 MotoGP Sprint races, cementing his status as the format's specialist. His sensational overtake at the start was a highlight, underlining why he is called the king of Misano in the Sprint.
For Bezzecchi, this is his best result of the season. Starting from pole, he had to settle for second, but it was still his first Sprint podium after two third-place finishes at Silverstone and Aragon. “I'm very happy. It's my best result in the Sprint. Finally, better than third,” he said.
Bezzecchi also praised his team's work throughout Saturday. “I'm very happy because I got pole and then a podium in the Sprint. It's fantastic for me. Great job by the team and we are ready for tomorrow,” he added. With this performance, he proves to be a serious threat for the rest of the season.
The championship standings are now even tighter. Marquez and Bezzecchi are separated by just a few points, promising a fierce duel in Sunday's main race. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin, who finished third, continues to lurk. The Misano Sprint was a thrilling opener, and fans can expect an even hotter race tomorrow.
