Marc Marquez has played down expectations of consecutive victories ahead of the 2026 Czech Grand Prix after warning that Brno will test his physical condition more severely than Hungary. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider arrives after taking pole position, the Sprint victory and the main-race win at Balaton Park, but believes that result was partly assisted by a layout that placed less strain on his right shoulder.

Marquez contested the Hungarian Grand Prix only weeks after undergoing surgery to address a long-standing shoulder problem. Balaton Park runs anticlockwise and features a greater proportion of left-hand corners, reducing the repeated load placed on his recovering right side. That characteristic helped Marquez manage his energy through the weekend before delivering his first Grand Prix victory of the season.

“The feelings in Hungary were incredible, with a full result through pole, the Sprint and Sunday’s race,” Marquez said.

“The layout of the Balaton circuit definitely favoured us because it was not too physically demanding. Here in Brno, the situation will be different.”

Brno presents a more severe challenge through its 5.4-kilometre layout, 14 corners and substantial elevation changes. Eight right-hand turns will apply repeated stress to the side of Marquez’s body that remains in recovery, particularly when he must absorb braking forces, shift his weight and stabilise the motorcycle through the middle of a corner. That load can affect not only outright strength, but also the consistency of his inputs across the Sprint and Grand Prix distances.

The Czech circuit’s fast and flowing nature also requires front-end stability and the ability to maintain momentum through changes of direction. Riders must preserve speed across the uphill sections to avoid losing acceleration, while the downhill braking areas increase the load on the front tyre. Small errors in body position or handlebar pressure can therefore produce a greater loss of grip when the rider is not operating at full physical capacity.

“It is a beautiful track that I like a lot and where I have already won with Ducati, but it is also really tough and demanding,” Marquez said.

“We will approach the weekend step by step to find our 100 percent every single day.”

That gradual approach forms an important part of Marquez’s strategy. In Hungary, he controlled his physical effort from Friday to ensure he remained in the best possible condition for the race. The plan allowed him to fight Pedro Acosta before taking the lead and establishing a gap during the final phase on the medium tyre.

The Hungary victory also revived Marquez’s championship prospects. The reigning world champion sits fifth with 108 points, 72 behind standings leader Marco Bezzecchi. The deficit remains substantial, but the difficult Hungarian weekend for several Aprilia riders allowed Marquez to reduce the gap as Ducati began to demonstrate improved consistency.

On the other side of the garage, Francesco Bagnaia arrives at Brno after recording three consecutive Grand Prix podiums. Bagnaia finished third in Hungary and believes the latest progress with the Desmosedici GP has provided a stronger platform from which to build consistent weekends.

“We arrive in Brno in a positive moment, with three consecutive podiums that give us a great boost,” Bagnaia said.

“I like the track very much. Brno and Assen are two circuits that, by their characteristics, are among my absolute favourites.”

Bagnaia continued to experience difficulties with grip and stability through direction changes in Hungary, but managed the gap to the riders behind to protect his podium. Brno will provide a different benchmark because its fast corners can reveal whether the Desmosedici GP’s improved balance is effective at a circuit demanding aerodynamic precision and strong front-tyre support.

“I am convinced that I can make the most of the steps forward made with the Desmosedici GP at these two circuits. The goal is to confirm the good feelings and be consistent,” Bagnaia said.

Ducati therefore enters Brno with two different priorities. Marquez must protect his physical condition without losing momentum in the title contest, while Bagnaia needs to convert the improvement shown across the last three rounds into a victory challenge. The Czech weekend will establish whether Marquez’s Hungary performance can be repeated at a more physically demanding circuit before the championship moves directly to Assen.
